Glendale has two very different tree populations. The older neighborhoods around Historic Downtown, Catlin Court, and Sahuaro Ranch — the streets off 59th Avenue and Glendale Avenue — were planted decades ago, and they carry some of the biggest Aleppo pines, mulberries, and old citrus in the West Valley. These are the trees that drop a limb the size of a small tree in a monsoon, that have outgrown the lots they were planted on, and that need an arborist who knows how to reduce weight without ruining the tree.

North of Loop 101, Arrowhead Ranch, Thunderbird, Marshall Ranch, and the newer subdivisions are a different job: palms along the lakes, desert trees on smaller lots, and the occasional ficus or sissoo that has gotten out of hand. Rovey Farm Estates and the area around Westgate and State Farm Stadium sit somewhere in between, with mid-age trees on what was farmland not long ago.
